Is Khodorkovsky starving?

Recently news appeared in the media that according to the lawyer of the ex-Yukos head Mikhail Khodorkovsky the criminal is on hunger strike for several days. Yuri Kalinin, the head of the Federal Service for punishment denied this statement.

Earlier the lawyer of ex-leader of Yukos Anton Drel called several Internet media resources and said that his client was on hunger strike for several days protesting against the transfer of ex-head of Menatep Platon Lebedev into lock-up.

The first to report the news was RBC followed by Gazeta.ru that referred to the press service of Khodorkovsky. The press service itself reported the news one hour later than Gazeta.ru referred to press service. Moscow Echo radio was reporting the news every 30 minutes. Then followed state RIA Novosti and Vesti. It is interesting that in his interview to Moscow Echo Drel could not remember exactly when his client started hunger strike.

Yuri Kalinin did not verify the information about Khodorkovsky’s hunger strike, RIA Novosti reports. “The prison’ administration has no information about the beginning of the hunger strike. Somebody is spreding this information on purpose”, Kalinin said, adding that Khodorkovsky spents $1000 a month on food.
