Law-makers to pass moratorium on foreign citizens adopting children from Russia

Social policy Committee of the Council of Federation appealed to the Office of Public Prosecutor with a request to pass a moratorium on Russian children adoption by foreigners.

Legislators are solicitous about frequent facts of violence exercised on Russian children adopted by foreigners, Interfax reports with reference to the head of Committee Valentin Petrenko.

“Numerous facts of killing children in adoptive families became the cause for our address. First of all, we are talking about the U.S.,” Petrenko said. “Recently the number of children from Russia killed in adoptive American families has increased. Children die from beating and exhaustion. Recently 13 children from Russia became victims of cruel treatment in adoptive American families,” he noted.

Recently the number of deaths of Russian children adopted by foreign citizens has noticeably increased.
