Two arrested in connection with murdering of Russian monastery head

Police have detained two people in connection with the killing of a Russian Orthodox abbot near Moscow.

Archimandrite German, an abbot of the Davydova Pustyn monastery, was found dead in his room on Tuesday. News reports said his hands had been bound and he may have been tortured.

Unnamed law enforcement officials said police had detained a Belarusian man and a local man and that both worked at the monastery.

Yelena Rassokhina, a spokeswoman for the Moscow regional prosecutors office, told the AP that the investigation was continuing, with robbery being considered as a motive.
