Russian, US and British warships exercise in Russian Far East

The first-ever Russian-US-British naval war games got underway in the Peter the Great bay (Russia's Primorye territory and north-western sector of the Sea of Japan) here today. The time difference between Moscow and Vladivostok, which is the main base of the Russian Navy's Pacific fleet, is seven hours.

Talking to RIA Novosti, people at the Pacific fleet's press center noted that the crews of six Russian, US and British warships will exercise for several consecutive hours, communicating with each other and practicing all kinds of maneuvers; this exercise also aims to enhance safe merchant-marine traffic.

The Russian side contributed its Admiral Tributs capital ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) ship, a high-speed missile boat and a naval ASW plane.

These war games are supervised by Rear Admiral Sergei Avramenko, who commands the Russian Pacific fleet's Primorye squadron.
