Police doubt terrorism in Moscow bombing that injures 7

The driver of a car that may have been the target of a bombing and six pedestrians were hospitalized with injuries here Tuesday. A Rosbalt correspondent at the scene on Zvenigorodsky Road within the city limits reported that the explosive device had been clamped to a metal stanchion outside No. 9, Zvenigorodsky. The device went off about 10 a.m. as a Mercedes vehicle was passing.

According to the emergency medical team at the scene, the injured pedestrians were hurt when they were flung to the ground and hit by flying glass. A Saab car parked nearby was reported heavily damaged. Investigators were still trying to pin down the force of the blast and the type of explosive used.

Authorities said they have determined the identity of the driver of the Mercedes and called him a totally unlikely candidate for a murder attempt. One police officer called the bombing 'an act of hooliganism.'
