59 different types of genetically modified food products registered in Russia

At present there are 9 different types of genetically modified plants registered in Russia, said National Association of Genetic Security President Alexander Baranov in a press conference yesterday. He said the total included four different types of modified corn, two types of soy and one type of sugar beet. All these types of food products have been created using genes acquired from transnational companies abroad. In addition, Baranov said according to the Russian Health Ministry there were 59 different types of genetically modified food products currently registered in Russia. 'These include 22 food additives, 16 protein products, 11 beverages and cocktails, 4 special food products for athletes and 3 kinds of ice cream,' said Baranov.
