President of Malta visiting St. Petersburg

On Tuesday, the medal, "In Memory of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg," will be presented to President Guido De Marco of the Republic of Malta. Mr. De Marco arrived in Russia's northern capital (St. Petersburg) on Monday.

The St. Petersburg administration officials said that the second day of the distinguished guest's stay in the northern capital would begin with a visit to St. Petersburg State University where Mr. De Marco will be presented with a mantle and an honorary diploma. St. Petersburg State University recently celebrated its 280th anniversary.

Afterward, Mr. De Marco will give a lecture, "Malta in the Process of European Integration: The Role of Small and Medium-Size Countries in Setting Up a System of International Relations," on the current integration processes in Europe at the university's department of international relations. (On May 1, Malta and nine other countries will become full and equal members of the EU).

After the lecture, Mr. De Marco will meet with Valentina Matviyenko, the governor of St. Petersburg. The governor will present Mr. De Marco with the medal, "In Memory of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg."

Guido De Marco and his wife will also visit the Mikhailovsky Castle where they will participate in the opening of an exhibition devoted to Malta.

Mr. De Marco's visit to St. Petersburg will conclude with a visit to the palaces in Pushkin and Pavlovsk, famous suburbs of St. Petersburg, on March 3.

Guido De Marco will return to Malta on March 3.
