Russia and India sign $1.5bn package deal

Russia and India have just concluded a package deal on selling the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov to India. According to the press service of the Russian arms exporting agency Rosoboronexport, related package documents have been signed in Delhi, the capital of India, being visited by Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov currently.

The deal ranks among the largest in the history of Russian-Indian military and technical cooperation, the press service pointed out. Under the project Russia shall repair and upgrade the carrier before selling it together with twenty MiG-29K fighter jets capable of being launched from the ship, as well as provide all the necessary technical assistance. As reported earlier, the total size of the package deal is estimated at about $1.5bn.
