YUKOS unlikely to get compensation from Sibneft

YUKOS is unlikely to get compensation from Sibneft, if their merger fails, Prospect Investment analyst Vladislav Tropko told RBC commenting on the decision of the board of directors of YUKOS to negotiate compensation with Sibneft.

Currently YUKOS is not in the position to demand compensation from Sibneft. Moreover, Sibneft, having a blocking stake in the united company, might hinder its activities considerably. Mikhail Khodorkovsky also declared that relations between the two companies would be like "divorce but not war", the analyst stressed.

As reported earlier, YUKOS-Sibneft agreements envisage a $1bn compensation, which is to be paid by the initiator of the deal's cancellation.
