Adjaria vows boycott unless Georgia vote is delayed

Adjaria has declared a boycott Georgia's presidential election. Aslan Abashidze, head of the republic, made the announcement to journalists in Moscow, the news agency Civil.ge reported. Aslan said Adjarians would not take part in the voting unless it is postponed for six months-from January 4 until next June. That would be sufficient time to resolve the situation in Georgia, Abashidze said. 'Georgia is not ready at this time for elections at this level,' he said.

Abashidze, the leader of the autonomous republic, has been in Moscow for a week of talks with Russian officials.
