Conference in Petersburg to focus on various aspects of Baltic Sea states' cooperation

On October 23-25 St. Petersburg will be hosting the 11th conference of sub-regional cooperation between the Baltic Sea states.

The conference is held as part of the celebrations of St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary. Its main topic is "The Northern Dimension of the European Union, Prospects for the Baltic Regions".

Thursday will see preliminary meetings of the organisation's working group and a seminar on the programme of the EU northern dimension.

The official opening of the conference will take place on Friday. Working groups will discuss various aspects of cooperation including stable economic development and preservation of cultural-historic legacy in the Baltic region.

The Non-governmental Organisation of Sub-regional Cooperation between the Baltic Sea States was founded in 1993. Today the organisation has no fixed membership and it is open for all the 163 regions of the Baltic Sea States. The organisation has no special budget. Its headquarters are situated in Gdansk (Poland).

Petersburg has been involved in the organisation's activities since its foundation.
