CIS Executive Secretary urges to bring closer the member-states legislations

The free trade zone of the Commonwealth of Independent States will not be created until the legislative basis of all member-counties of the Commonwealth will be brought closer together.

As has been reported by the press service of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this opinion was expressed at the session of the CIS Economic Council in September in Moscow by Yury Yarov, chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the CIS.

He pointed out the necessity of raising the responsibility by the Commonwealth countries for meeting their commitments before the CIS executive bodies and under the existing programmes.

According to Yury Yarov, the primary task which must be fulfilled within the framework of the CIS is the ratification of the already signed agreements or the carrying out of the inner-state procedure. "In some states, this process is still going on, though five or seven years have already passed after the signing of the agreement," remarked the Chairman of the CIS Executive Council.

However, he expressed confidence that the first stage of the creation of the CIS free trade zone should be completed for the Commonwealth summit in Yalta.

The Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee also said that the development plan in the economic sphere up to 2010 provides for a sharp increase in the trade between the countries of the Commonwealth.

According to Yarov, this year, trade between these countries has went up by 26 percent. "This shows once more that with due attention to the integration processes within the CIS countries the tasks set in the development plan for 2010 can be fulfilled," pointed out the head of the CIS Executive Committee.
