Severstal increases steel production

Severstal increased its steel production to 5.786m tons in the period from January to July 2003, which was 5.6 percent higher than in the corresponding period of last year, the press service of the company reported. Some 5.132m tons of rolled metal (a 5.3-percent advance) and 4.553m tons of cast iron (a 1.5-percent growth) were produced in the reported period.

In July 2003 the company produced 774,900 tons of rolled metal, 883,300 tons of steel and 679,100 tons of cast iron.

Commenting on the July 2003 results Severstal General Director Anatoly Kruchinin pointed out that the planned amount of the rolled metal production and selling had been fulfilled. The company's production advanced by almost 30,000 tons in July, against June 2003. In August 2003 the plant is planning to ship about 770,000 tons of rolled metal to consumers on the domestic and external markets.
