Railroad tariffs might be increased by 12% next year

The 12-percent increase in railroad cargo transportation in 2004 is a reasonable indexation parameter, Russian Deputy Railroad Minister Vadim Morozov declared at a new conference devoted to the ministry's tariff policy in the period of transferring to the joint stock company Russian Railroads. He mentioned that the question of raising tariffs on railroad transportation would be considered at a government meeting on August 12. "We count on the support of the Economy and Finance Ministries", he said.

Speaking about passenger transportation tariffs he noted that there was no reason to increase these tariffs by more than 12 percent in 2004.
