Russia stands for normalisation of situation in Liberia

Russia is for normalisation of the situation in Liberia and resuming the peace process in that country as soon as possible.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry Department of Information and Press, "the military-political situation in Liberia has significantly aggravated again." Renewed clashes between governmental troops and the armed opposition have broken down the ceasefire agreement signed by the opponents on June 17, 2003," the Russian Foreign Ministry stresses.

Moscow believes that renewal of the peace process would "make it possible to overcome the longstanding crisis in the country, create the conditions for improving the humanitarian situation and the political climate in the West African subregion as a whole."
