Moscow believes Russia's joining WTO will save it from discriminatory measures

Russia's joining the World Trade Organisation /WTO/ will save Russia from antidumping discriminatory measures, Russian Deputy Minister for Economic Development and Trade Yuri Isayev stated, when speaking at the Russian metallurgic summit in Moscow earlier on Wednesday.

"In this case no worse antidumping measures could be taken against Russia than against any other country. In case Russia joins the WTO, the current antidumping measures must be reviewed and lifted or brought in compliance with the organisation's rules," the Deputy Minister explained.

Today ferrous metallurgy products top the list of Russian goods, which are subject to restrictive measures in different countries, Isayev pointed out. According to him, this situation was caused by the world overproduction crisis and the US implementation of the programme of restrictive measures concerning steel products.

However, recent trade protective measures have not been applied to equalise competition conditions, but for protection purposes - to combat unwanted import, the Deputy Minister believes. "We are against using trade protective measures as a means to combat compatible Russian products," he stressed.
