Putin Speaks of Intensifying the Law-Making Activity of the Federation Council

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has called upon the senators (members of the Federation Council - the Upper House of the Russian Parliament) not to slow down their activity on harmonising the legislation.

When speaking at a meeting with members of the Federation Council on Friday, the President underscored that tremendous work had been done on bringing regional laws to conformity with federal ones. During this work the parliamentarians worked jointly with the Prosecutor's Office and the bodies of justice.

Vladimir Putin specially thanked the Legislative Assemblies of the regions for the work done.

At the same time, the president believes, the work of the Federation Council in this sphere "should not be slowed down, not because there is still something to do, but because the legislative process is live and developing." "It is very important that this process on harmonising the legislation should not stop, should not turn back," said the president.

Vladimir Putin also drew attention to the quality of the legislation. According to him, the law-making process "is going on intensively." In this connection, the president called for "paying attention to the practice of applying laws."
