Russia is ready to supply communication equipment and systems to Iraq in order to restore the country's communication, RIA Novosti learned from the press service of the Russian Control Systems Agency.
"US President George Bush's request to lift sanctions from Iraq that he sent to the UN opens a possibility for such supplies," the press service pointed out. "They can be carried out by the Relero joint stock company /the Omsk radio plant, Siberia/".
Before the sanctions were introduced, Iraq had been the company's traditional market where it sold telecommunication equipment, the plant's general director Ivan Polyakov pointed out.
When speaking on the possibility of resuming supplies to Iraq, Polyakov specified that it first of all meant deliveries of wireless radio-relay communication equipment, as well as ready-to-operate communication systems, that now require a higher level of protection.
At present the company is actively increasing its production volume. Thus, in the first quarter of 2003 it grew by 7 times as compared to the same period last year. By 2005 the enterprise's export potential may amount to $100-150 million annually, the director believes.
Relero is one of Russia's largest producers of small-channel radio-relay stations.
