VimpelCom posts net profit

Net profit of Russia's No.2 mobile operator in compliance with International Accounting Standards surged 173.9 percent to $129.6m in 2002 compared to 2001. This data was reported in the company's statement prepared for a press conference on VimpelCom's 2002 results.

VimpelCom's operating income amounted to $768.5m last year, which was 81.8 percent more than in 2001, and EBITDA increased 117 percent to $322.2m. According to the company's statement, the company's subscriber base, including subscribers of subsidiaries, increased by about 144 percent to 5.15 million, including 3.71 million in Moscow and the Moscow region, by the end of 2002. As of now, the number of VimpelCom's subscribers is 6.15 million, including 3.93 million in Moscow and the surrounding region.
