Russian government approves long-term programme for cooperation with Iran

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov has signed a resolution approving a draft long-term programme for the development of trade, economic, industrial, scientific and technological cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran for a period ending in 2012.

The draft programme has been agreed upon with the Russian foreign ministry and other federal departments concerned. The programme notes that the Russian and Iranian sides will contain themselves from measures restricting mutual trade. Besides, it provides for mutual exchange of information on legislative acts regulating foreign trade and economic cooperation in both states as well as on exports and market situation.

Russian-Iranian cooperation will address such areas as electricity generation, nuclear power industry, ferrous metallurgy, petrochemistry and chemistry, civil aviation, coal industry, banking services and communication.

Russian-Iranian contacts in the fuel-and-energy tandem is ascribed a special part in the programme. There are provisions for the promotion of such joint projects as the development of the second and third phases of the Southern Parse deposits as well as the construction, financing and exploitation of a gas-main between Iran and India.
