Honda Is Approved By USA

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board have certified the hydrogen-powered FCX as meeting all applicable standards, Honda said.

Honda will begin a lease program for a limited number of FCXs in the United States and Japan by the end of this year, earlier than initially planned, the company said.

The automaker will lease about 30 fuel cell vehicles in California and the Tokyo metropolitan area for the first two to three years, it said.

Honda has yet to decide on the price and currently has no plans to begin commercial sales of the vehicle, it said.

Honda began research on fuel cells in 1989 and has been conducting road tests in the United States and Japan since 1999 ©
