Newfield Hires New Managing Director

Newfield Exploration Company has hired D. Roy Phillips as Managing Director, Newfield Petroleum U.K. Ltd.

Phillip's has nearly 30 years of oil and gas experience, including about 20 years in the North Sea and 10 years in North America, primarily in the Gulf of Mexico. He will be joining Newfield effective August 5 in the Company's London office, managing the Company's new initiative in the U.K. North Sea.

Phillips will join Newfield from Kerr McGee where he has worked in roles of increasing responsibility since 1984. Phillips was most recently Vice President and Managing Director for Kerr McGee North Sea (U.K.) Ltd from early 1999 through April 2002. In this capacity, Phillips was responsible for all aspects of Kerr McGee's business unit performance and has been instrumental in their expansion in the North Sea. Prior to this position, Phillips was Vice President -- North America Region from mid-1997 through early 1999. From 1989-97, he held various management positions in the company's North Sea operations including General Manager of the company's U.K. production and drilling operations. Prior to Kerr McGee, Phillips worked for Standard Oil of Ohio and Exxon Company.

Phillips was graduated from Salford University, England with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He holds a M.S. degree in Management Science and Operations Research from Warwick University, England.
