Fires on the Kamchatka Peninsula

Six forest fires in a total area of 17,233 hectares are raging on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Sea of Okhotsk. Four of them have already been localised.

Two of the fires are causing special concern. Near the Nikolka mountain, three thousand hectares of the fir forest are on fire. The situation is difficult also because fire engines cannot be brought there because of the absence of roads in the area. And only sixty-six firefighters are fighting the forest fire.

Along the River Shchapino, three and a half thousand hectares of forests are on fire. Thirty-five people and five fire engines are working in this area. Every day a Mi-8 helicopter brings everything necessary to the region.
