Egypt starts assembling Russian cars

According to the information received by RIA Novosti from the AVTOVAZ company, on Saturday at the assembly line in a suburb of Cairo, the Egyptian capital, they shall start assembling Russian Lada cars. The company with the main office in the city of Togliatti (the Volga region) is manufacturing these cars.

According to it, this year they will dispatch to Egypt sets of parts required to assemble 1,500 Lada cars. The first shipment was made in February. In future VAZ plans to supply to Egypt up to 5,000 assembly sets per annum.

Another Russian motor car factory in the city of Ulyanovsk plans in the nearest future to establish an enterprise to assemble its cars in Venezuela. Already by the end of 2002 it is expected to assemble 500 cars. The project will be implemented jointly with the Venezuelan Agamar-group company. Ulyanovsk manufactures cars with increased cross-country ability of the "jeep" type which triggered interest in Venezuela. Their presentation was held in Caracas in May.
