In 2002, the Severstal metallurgical concern wants to join Ford's suppliers of steel. According to Severstal's press service, Dmitry Gorshkov, the concern's Sales Director, says besides the new Ford's plant in the town of Vsevolozhsk, the Leningrad Region, the Cherepovets metallurgical giant would like to supply steel to the other plants of Ford Europe, the European branch of Ford Motor Company.
At this time, the Vsevolozhsk Ford plant just assembles vehicles, metal components brought from Europe. Severstal considers getting internationally certified as meeting ISO 9000/ TU 16 949 standard to be able to supply steel to automakers. This step should help the steel maker realise its intentions as concerns cooperation with Fоrd Motor Company. The certification incorporates the standards set by the world's leading automobile makers, such as Fоrd, Chrysler, and General Motors.
Ford's new plant in the town of Vsevolozhsk was opened the day before yesterday, July 9. The Severstal metallurgical concern of the city of Cherepovets is one of Russia's three giant steel makers.
