British Ambassador to Award Retraining Certificates to Russian Officers in Yekaterinburg

On July 11, in Yekaterinburg, about 100 Russian officers will receive retraining course certificates from the Ambassador of Great Britain. The 3 months-long retraining is done under Russian-British joint retraining programme for military personnel financed by the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom.

According to the Consulate General of Great Britain in Yekaterinburg, over the period between June 26 and July 16, 2002, over 1,200 Russian officers who are being retrained at the retraining centres in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Vladivostok, and Yekaterinburg will receive their certificates.

The 3.5 to 4 months-long retraining includes courses in economics and informatics. The teaching is done at higher colleges under agreements with the Ministry of Defence of Great Britain. The Russian-British joint retraining programme first began in October 1995, its purpose to help officers to be laid off to obtain qualifications useful in civilian environment.
