Russia's Rivers to Become Part of Europe's Internal Water Transportation System
According to the press service of United Nations' Economic Comission for Europe (UNECE), the navigable rivers of Russia will be officially considered part of Europe's internal water transportation system. The system was established by an agreement concerning internationally significant internal waterways between Russia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, the Republic of Moldova, Slovakia, Croatia, Czechia, and Sweden. Austria, Germany, Greece, and Finland have also endorsed the agreement and will participate in the international waterways system.
The overall length of the European waterways system, which includes 350 internationally important ports, is 28,000 km. It passes through 37 countries and spreads from the Atlantic Ocean to the Urals.
