Material loss from flooding in Southern Russia

The material loss from floods in Southern Russia is estimated at almost 14.4 billion roubles (US$1=over 31 roubles), reported the press-service of Russia's Emergencies Ministry on Monday.

The flood has damaged 346 populated areas, destroyed almost 11,000 and damaged about 56,000 dwellings, with only 20% having been restored so far. The floods have damaged more than 144 km of gas pipelines, 584 bridges, 2,241.5 km of highways, about 6 km of railways, 404 km of electric transmission lines, almost a thousand water lines and water intakes. In 360 settlements power supply was interrupted, and gas supply in 163 settlements.

By Monday morning almost all electric transmission lines were restored, 5 km of the railways, 70% of the water lines and water intakes, about 60 km of gas pipelines, almost 60% of automobile roads, and all railway and almost half the pedestrian bridges. More than 86,000 people returned to their permanent places of residence.
