Russian Vice-Premier: conditions must be created for the return of fellow-countrymen to Russia

The main task of the new "meaningful state migration policy is to create conditions for the return to Russia and adaptation of fellow-countrymen and improvement of the economic situation in the country," said Vice-Premier Valentina Matviyenko, opening the first meeting of the government migration policy commission on Friday.

The commission was set up on instructions from President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

Valentina Matviyenko said that the government had been vested with the task of developing a migration policy in order to create an effective protection for those who want to come and live in the Russian Federation.

Matviyenko noted that "the migration policy must be an effective mechanism now that the population situation is far from good in the country." Apart from that, believes the Vice-Premier, the migration policy "must facilitate improvement of the economic situation." "It is necessary to amend a number of legislative acts so that they comply with the norms of civilized law and also to coordinate the work of all the interested ministries and departments," stressed the Vice-Premier.
