Situation on Russia's southern borders assessed as grave

Director of the Federal Frontier Service (FPS) of Russia Konstantin Totsky assesses the situation on the borders of Russia and of the CIS states as grave. He said this on Friday in his speech at the formal ceremony of graduation of officers of the Academy of the Federal Frontier Service.

Addressing the graduates, Totsky stressed that "crime on the border, the manifestations of international extremism and terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal migration, smuggling of a particularly large scale, and a number of other threats - this is what you will have to deal with on the frontier today".

As he said, no matter what section of the border today's graduates will have to guard - a more complex one or less tense, each metre of the state border acquires increasing importance in the present-day conditions."
