FBI complains of poverty

As it turns out, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is not that powerful, as it seems. One may come to this conclusion after reading the article in the Times newspaper. The newspaper wrote that the technical level of FBI’s computers was worse that those that were used by American students. A lot of agents complain of the fact that they simply do not have a possibility to check the information regarding the connection of these or those people to terrorist activities. FBI agent from Minnesota, Coleen Rowley, stated that the FBI failed to take into consideration the signals, which indicated possible acts of terrorism, and September 11 attacks happened as a result.

Coleen Rowley declared that it was not possible to search for word combinations in search engines that FBI used. She said that one could search for word “aviation” and get thousands of documents, one could search for “school” and get thousands of documents too, but it was not possible at all to search for “aviation schools.”

Democratic Senator Charles E. Schumer, said that even the cheap computer that he had bought for his daughter was better than FBI’s computers. So, this seems to be the reason why American special services are not that perfect sometimes – they are short of good computers. But on the other hand, this could be a very serious problem for FBI agents. However, all those statements look like excuses, maybe American tax-payers will have to pay up for new computers for the Federal Bureau of Investigation soon. Security comes first.
