Russian Finance Ministry made regular payment to settle Russia's debt to International Monetary Fund

On Friday the Finance Ministry of Russia effected a regular payment of 25.147 million US dollars to reimburse Russia's debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

As a Russian Finance Ministry spokesman told RIA Novosti, in accordance with the original schedule of payments money had to be transferred on Sunday, June 9th. Since it is a day off, the payment was made on Friday.

The previous payment of 52.82 million dollars was made on May 20th. On the whole, payments to a sum total of 1.5 billion dollars to settle Russia's debt to the Fund are planned for this year. As of January 1st, 2002, the Russian debt to the IMF was estimated at 7.5 billion dollars. About 600 million dollars were remitted to the Fund in January-May.

As IMF officials note, Russia has been consistently fulfilling its obligations.
