Gazprom secures ten-year agreement on gas transit via Ukraine

Ukraine's national joint-stock oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy and Russia's gas monopolist Gazprom have secured an agreement on transit of natural gas from Russia via Ukraine through 2003-2013, head of Naftogaz Ukrainy Yury Boiko announced. He noted the agreement would be signed on June 21, 2002 when the Russian and Ukrainian Prime Ministers would be meeting. The agreement will be signed by Gazprom head Alexey Miller and head of Naftogaz Ukrainy Yury Boiko.

According to this agreement, the volume of natural gas transit from Russia via Ukraine will amount to no less than 110bn cubic meters a year. The price for transporting gas via Ukraine was set at $1.09 per 1,000 cubic meters per 100 kilometers. This year, 124.5bn cubic meters of gas are expected to be transported via Ukraine, i.e. the same amount as in 2001.
