Russia And Yemen Determined To Boost Trade-economic Cooperation

Summing up the first round of negotiations with his Yemen counterpart, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said that Russia and Yemen were not satisfied with the current level of bilateral trade-economic cooperation. According to him, the current economic relations between the two countries do not correspond to the recent advance in their political dialogue and their cooperation in the international arena. The minister recalled that meeting at the New York Millennium Summit, the presidents of Russia and Yemen had both voiced determination to boost relations between their two countries. According to Ivanov, the current negotiations between the Russian and Yemeni foreign ministers are being held with that goal in mind. The Russian minister went on to say that a delegation of Russian businessmen would soon visit Yemen to study prospects for the extension of trade-economic cooperation between the two countries. Ivanov said he had discussed with his Yemeni counterpart the upcoming visit to Moscow by President Ali Abdallah Saleh. Russia and Yemen would like this visit to help turn over a new page in the development of bilateral relations, the Russian minister stressed.
