Rescuers remove obstructions on Khabarovsk Territory rivers

Rescuers of the Emergencies Ministry Tuesday morning set to removing obstructions in the mountainous river Khor in the Khabarovsk Territory (Far East). According to the first deputy head of the Far Eastern Emergencies Ministry Department, colonel Valery Sukhoborov, mobile detachment 184 of the separate rescue brigade has already started blasting heavy ice, thereby opening up a way for external waters and preventing flooding of the nearby populated areas. According to Sukhoborov, rescuers have also landed in the mountain river Uda, north of the Khabarovsk Territory, and in the river Tumnin, where ice obstructions have emerged. On the rivers Lena and Olekma in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), (northern part of the Far Eastern territory), where drifting of ice is expected in the period from 3 to 7 May, special methods have been applied to speed up ice melting. The staffer of the Far Eastern regional department of the Ministry of Emergencies has also stated that the rescue detachments in the region are fully prepared to start, if appropriate, prompt relocation of people from the regions endangered by flooding.
