UN employees who are or have been working in the Balkans are being warned about the potential risks to the health posed by depleted uranium, used by NATO in projectiles and bombs. The UN spokesman Fred Eckhard stated that a letter has been prepared and will be sent to all employees “warning them about the potential health risks of exposition to DU and recommending that they do not touch shrapnel”. Meanwhile, NATO continues to deny that there is any danger to the health whatsoever posed by depleted uranium and intends to maintain this position until it is proved otherwise.
