Sergei Zemchenok, the goalkeeper of the Magnitogorsk Metallurg hockey club, has been shot dead in the head apparently by a contract killer on the stairway of his apartment building at 19 Ulitsa Truda in the Uralian city of Magnitogorsk. His body was later found by the neighbours. RIA Novosti, citing law-enforcement bodies, reports that the killer was waiting for the sportsman on the buillding’s third floor, where the latter's apartment was situated. The shot was made as the elevator stopped and Mr. Zemchenok was walking out. He is thought to have died instantly while the killer managed to escape. Investigation is currently underway.
