The Great Britain, following USA, is getting rid of deprived uranium ammunition

A spokesman for the British Defence Ministry said that Americans’ decision to stop the production of deprived uranium ammunition means that the British Royal Navy should gradually get rid of it as well. Thus, Great Britain is cutting down its deplete uranium ammunition stock. It will be recalled that, American companies have already stopped production of this type of ammunition due to suspected health hazards caused by military personnel's exposure to deplete uranium radiation. According to British media, Pentagon had warned of cancer risks exacerbated by use of deplete uranium ammunition as long ago as 1993. In this connection, US Navy has been steadily removing this type of ammunition from its arsenals for over a decade. The arsenals of the British Royal Navy, however, still abound in deplete uranium ammunition, the media point out. The uranium scandal in Great Britain shows no signs of abating. Veterans of the Gulf War and the Balkans conflict are accusing the Defence Ministry of concealing the truth about the health risks engendered by use of deplete uranium ammunition. Yielding to public opinion, the Defence Ministry has announced about medical screening of the veterans, RIA Novosti reports. At the same time the Defence Ministry keeps on saying that the connection between using of such kind of ammunition and diseases, the participants of the operations suffer, is not proved yet.
