A state of emergency may be declared in Georgia

Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze has said that a state of emergency may be declared in Georgia. He has said that it is caused by a serious rise in the crime rate. He told the Cabinet on Wednesday that many crimes committed lately is of a contract nature, which suggests that "destructive forces" have stepped up their activity in the republic. He said foreign special services might be among these destructive forces, Moscow Echo announces. Shevardnadze instructed the heads of the law-enforcement agencies to pay special attention to this fact.
