Macedonia is interested in Russia’s return to the Balkans

Macedonia is interested in the quick and active return of Russia to the Balkans. But Moscow should amend its policy in the region, in particular, to reinforce the foreign-economic policy, Konstantin Kosachev, the depute chairman of the committee for foreign affairs of the State Duma said after today’s meeting with Parliamentary delegation of Macedonia. Kosachev noted that in the opinion of his interlocutors it would be reasonable to accomplish a few projects of economic collaboration, Itar-Tass announces. Expansion of oil supply to the region is implied. In this connection the question of the high-powered gas pipe line “Russia-Macedonia” set in operation in 1997 was concerned. Only 10 % of the pipe line is in use now because the inhabitants don’t use much gas. In Macedonian members of parliament point of view the pipe line should be prolonged to other countries of the region. Russia could also participate in the realisation of the projects of the traffic infrastructure development in the peninsula, which are being accomplished with the assistance of the European Unit.
