Presidential representative's spokesman: Changes in the structure of federal districts make no sense

"No changes in the structure of federal districts are planned," Sergei Novikov, the press secretary of the authorized representative of the President of Russia in the Volga Federal District, said commenting on an appeal of Perm Regional Governor to transfer his region from the Volga Federal District to the Ural Federal District. "The only amendment that has so far been made to the presidential decree on establishing the federal districts was renaming the North Caucasus District, which is now called Southern District," Novikov underlined. "If such a precedent was set, Tyumen would wish to join the Siberian Federal District, Volgograd and Astrakhan (would wish to join) the Volga District, etc, RBC reports. This makes no sense," Novikov stated representing the position of Sergei Kiriyenko, the President's authorized representative in the Volga Federal District.
