ARAFAT AND CLINTON AGREE TO DIFFER

Talks between US President Bill Clinton and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat have ended without result. Mr. Arafat told journalists that he had stated to the US president his proposal to deploy UN peace-keeping forces on the West Bank and Gaza strip with the aim to protect Palestinians from the Israeli army, NTV reports. Mr. Clinton’s reaction to this proposal is unknown. Earlier, US State Department had unequivocally declined the idea.
