A US Air Force helicopter has been shot down by Taleban forces near Gardez, eastern Afghanistan, proving that this conflict is far from over, the war far from won as rumours of a strike on a second helicopter are unconfirmed.
First reports indicate that six servicemen have been killed and an undisclosed number injured when the MH47 helicopter, used by the US Special Forces, was shot down by ground fire. The full complement of this helicopter is 42 but it is not clear whether or not it was full.
It was hit by ground fire as the US military forces entered the third day of their campaign in the mountains near Gardez.
