Blind swimmer in cold water for woman

The data about the swimmer will be sent to Guinness Book: Valentin Zlobin performed a marathon swimming race in the ice-cold water. Zlobin is blind, he lost his sight due to an injury 30 years ago.

Valentin is the only blind member of the international association of the marathon winter swimming. He swam across Lake Baikal twice, participated in the 185 kilometer swimming race across Lake Issyk-Kul. He is now the chairman of the Sakhalin regional marathon swimming center for disabled people.

However, the mentioned swim race in the ice-cold water was his personal initiative. This happened for the first time in the whole world. The temperature of the water was 9 degrees over. Zlobin said before the race he would spend about an hour in the water. A doctor was on duty all the time. Before Zlobin swam she examined him and said the 55-year-old sportsman had a trained organism. But one can expect anything in the water that cold.

During the race the swimmer was guided by a rope that he sensed with his shoulder. Besides, Valentin Zlobin oriented himself with the music he heard was playing on the shore at the start point. His wife Nadezhda was playing that music. Zlobin met his beloved back in 1973 in Moscow. Nadezhda can see but not well. Valentin Zlobin dedicated his ice-cold swimming to her – it was her birthday that day, Alternative Sakhalin Television said.
