Russian And Iranian Foreign Ministers Discuss Situation In Afghanistan

Russian and Iranian Foreign Ministers Igor Ivanov and Kamal Kharrazi had a telephone conversation Wednesday. Discussing the situation in Afghanistan, the ministers stressed the importance of stimulating international efforts on searching the ways of the post-conflict political settlement in the country under the UN aegis, the press and information department of the Russian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti. The Russian and Iranian Foreign Ministers expressed a common opinion on the necessity of involving for these purposes the mechanism of the group "Friends and Neighbours of Afghanistan" (group Six Plus Two), the department noted. Ivanov and Kharrazi agreed to proceed with consultations on this issue.
