USA Announces Progress In Destruction Of Taleban Air Defense

On Monday Donald Rumsfeld, head of the Pentagon, stated that in the course of the first wave of air strikes against Afghanistan last Sunday certain progress was achieved in elimination of Taleban air defense. According to him, significant damage was inflicted to military aerodromes. At the same time the minister indicated that he could not announce with confidence about elimination of a dozen of command posts as well as installations where the Taleban leadership might have stayed. The minister confirmed that certain Taleban land forces were among the targets. He also stressed that it was still premature to talk about the complete Taleban air defense, aviation and aerodrome becoming inoperable. Rumsfeld stated that "we did not possess full information about the results of strikes delivered by us but I suspected that when we received them we would see that we should carry out additional work".
