Like Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Russia's second largest city, has stepped up guard of its vitally important objects in the wake of the US-led military operation in Afghanistan. The foreign consulates and life supporting facilities have been put under intensive guard, with the city's residential communities being patrolled, according to the Petersburg police. The city police top are planning to hold a meeting with the elders of Petersburg's Afghan community to "discuss the current developments."
