The construction of a railroad bridge between the Khabarovsk region and Sakhalin is the most promising investment project of Russia, and will have to be implemented sooner or later. However, it's still not clear when this will be done. Economic Development and Trade Minister of the Russian Federation German Gref declared at a press conference devoted to the results of his trip to the Sakhalin region today. According to him, the government discussed this project at the beginning of October. The project was estimated as equal to $4bn. A decision was made that all papers with technical and economic details of the project are supposed to be prepared by February 2002. Officials stressed the necessity of determining the economic importance of the bridge, Gref said. At the same time, participants of the session emphasized that the project would be implemented anyway and that it was just a matter of time.
