Russian Communist Leader Against Withdrawing Peace-keepers From Georgia-abkhaz Conflict Zone

Gennady Zyuganov, the communist leader, has come out against withdrawing Russian peace-keepers from the Georgia-Abkhaz conflict zone. /Abkhazia is a self-proclaimed republic in Georgia's territory./ Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the People's Patriotic Union and the Communist Party, said as much at a RIA Novosti press conference. Russia should by no means withdraw its peace-keepers from the zone of Georgia-Abkhazia confrontation, otherwise this will immediately spark off a war, Zyuganov believes. He assessed the Georgian developments as a personal tragedy, for, in his words, he had been in charge of the Caucasus republics, as a member of the USSR Communist Party Central Committee. Georgia has by now fallen apart, some 2 million people have left the republic; the war will in no way solve the existent problems, said the communist leader.
