State Duma Speaker Views Recent Events In Georgia As A Deep Political Crisis

Georgia is in a deep political crisis, State Duma (lower house of parliament) Speaker Gennady Seleznyov, currently on an official visit in Slovakia, told a news conference. "The dismissal of the Georgian government and the resignation announcement of the Georgian parliament's speaker is the republic's internal affair", Seleznyov said. "We shall not interfere with it," he stressed. According to him, "Russia, however, is interested in the stabilization of the situation in Georgia as soon as possible." The State Duma Speaker reminded those present of the November meeting of "The Caucasian Parliamentary Four" in St. Petersburg and expressed his high hopes that the acting speaker of the Georgian parliament would participate in it.
